Portage Tackles Project for Trout Unlimited |
|
Portage, Inc. is helping Trout Unlimited respond to impacts from drought conditions
in western Montana. Portage is making improvements to four water regulating structures
on the Parrot Ditch, a 27-mile irrigation system in Madison County, Montana. Portage
surveyed the structures and designed engineering improvements to enhance water conservation,
improve return water flow to the Jefferson River, and increase the operating efficiency
and safety. Portage is currently completing the construction of these improvements.
Trout Unlimited, in collaboration with the U.S. Natural Resources Conservation Service
and the Parrot Ditch Company, is working to alleviate the effects of drought on
the river and surrounding area.
